The interplay of bizarre interiors and other everyday surrealities creates a peculiar tension that is neither entirely logical nor entirely fantastical. Rather, the inbetween becomes the actual theme – the realm between control and loss of control, between order and playful dissolution of boundaries. The pictorial spaces seem to be experimental arrangements of thought, in which the everyday is
observed under laboratory conditions and at the same time charged with poetry.
For her installation Grüne Pumpe (Green Pump), the artist uses objects and found items that are predominantly industrially manufactured and originally intended for non-artistic environments. Some of her models are very colourful, with garish art objects as well as ordinary colours – such as the yellow of a beach mat, the blue of a cake cover, clothes hangers, a shoulder bag, bait, a clothes horse, a bottle with a cleaning brush, birch bark, reed plants, everything that could hint at a trip to
the open-cast lake – the plastic flower in the window is a successful addition. The connections between the objects created by Britz lend them an unexpected intensity. Through playful interventions, the artist recodes these things; they are transformed into performance subjects that enter into dialogue with one another. Profane objects –
such as the clothes horse, which is ‘collected’ especially for this installation, or the cable-like elements that otherwise remain hidden behind the scenes or in the studio – take centre stage in the art world. They form novel formations, surreal experimental arrangements, as Britz herself describes them.
