What does digitalisation mean for painting, drawing and photography today?
The exhibition curated by Anita Stöhr Weber and Susanne Britz focuses on artistic concepts that explore the nature of intermediality. Based on the positions of the two artists, who reflect on digitality in their works in very different ways, a discourse is opened up by including selected works by other artists. This takes place in a very concrete way, both through the compilation of the works and through the spatial relationships between the works in the exhibition space.

agens & reagens
18.01.–10.03.2017
rk-Galerie für zeitgenössische Kunst, Berlin
Curated by Susanne Britz & Anita Stöhr Weber
Artworks deal with aspects of representationalism and are themselves objects. This duality is at the heart of the works of eight artists, which will be on display at the rk-Galerie in Berlin from 18 January to 10 March 2017 under the title ‘agens & reagens’.
The works, which are formally presented in different media ̶ such as drawing, photography, installation and video ̶ are linked by the question of what the respective attempts to appropriate representationalism reveal about the nature of the artwork itself.
The object selected by each artist is quoted, extracted, modified, transformed or even deformed. It acts as a catalyst that sets the pictorial reflexive process in motion.
In this artistically laid trail of representationalism, the fragmentary nature of the world always remains visible. This is also evident in the ambiguous, multi-layered and fragmentary, open character of the works.
Systems and orders are used and cited to approach the object, only to be counteracted and questioned again afterwards. The artwork as a prototype is a hybrid with a visually changing nature.
The eight positions compiled by Anita Stöhr Weber and Susanne Britz invite viewers in a very individual way to reflect on their own forms of appropriating the world.
